Evidence & analysis
Unresolved is a starting point for questions.
We use “unresolved” to describe an observation for which the available information does not support a confident explanation. It is a statement about the limits of the evidence. It does not, by itself, establish an extraordinary origin.
A short clip can leave important questions unanswered. Where was the camera pointing? How much zoom was used? Was the camera moving? Were there other witnesses or recordings from the same time and place?
Our editorial approach is to document the claim, preserve the source material and identify ordinary possibilities worth checking. Aircraft, satellites, weather, lighting and camera effects are questions to investigate rather than conclusions to assume.
A report can remain interesting while its explanation remains open. The most useful next step is often a better timeline, an original file or an independent observation. Read our investigation approach
